What is a Travel Course?
Travel Courses are generally:
- on-campus, semester-long courses with a short term travel component
- students attend pre-departure class meetings to academically prepare for travel
- between ten days and four weeks of travel
- occur during winter break, spring break, or summer
- COF faculty member travels with the students to the destination
Check with your study abroad advisor and with your financial aid office to learn about the pricing for these Travel Courses, as the credits, travel, accommodations, etc. which are generally included in the cost may vary from course to course.
Selecting a Travel Course
You can search online for study abroad programs, including Travel Courses, through our online database, COF StudioAbroad Portal. On this site, you can create an account and browse through all COF Travel Courses. After you have chosen a program, you can complete the application process online. You still should meet with both your academic and study abroad advisors once you decide on a program.
Application Procedures
To apply to a COF Travel Course at your home institution, or to cross-register, create an account and begin your application at the COF StudioAbroad Portal.
All travel courses are open to COF students for cross-registration unless otherwise noted. To cross-register for a COF Travel Course, there are two major steps:
1) Apply for the Travel Course Program online (deadlines generally October 15 for spring, and March 15 for summer/fall).
2) Cross-register* for the course during cross-registration (generally in November for spring, and early April for summer/fall). *In many cases, Travel Course registration is done by the Study Abroad Office, so this will be completed automatically.
