Founded in 2006, Colleges of the Fenway (COF) Dance provides member colleges with a shared resource for educational and artistic opportunities in dance. This program encourages academic enrichment and community building through its offering of classes, performances, and events. COF Dance is an inclusive, supportive environment, welcoming students, faculty, and staff of all abilities and experience.

Weekly technique classes are offered in addition to semester-long repertory classes which culminate in a final performance. Interested students, by audition, may also choreograph their own works and will receive mentorship from a panel of experienced choreographers.

“My involvement with the COF Dance has opened up countless opportunities for me. The connections I’ve made throughout the five schools have impacted my student life in many positive ways and have led me to find some of my closest friends. Every activity I am a part of in COF has offered me a very supportive and joyous environment where I am able to continue my passion for dance, music, and running and form long-lasting friendships within the COF community. My COF community has acted as my support system in and out of our programs.”

“Some places you just “click” with.  I’m happy that one of my places is COF dance. Very few places in the dance world have the ability to simultaneously promote the true joy of dance and friendship. It is such a gift to be a part of this community. Even on the worst days and during the most stressful weeks, I always knew my day would turn around if I had dance to look forward to. As my undergraduate career comes to an end, it is important for me to say that everyone at COF dance has impacted me tremendously, and I know I am a better person from being a part of it. Sending all my love, gratitude, and appreciation to everyone, and I can’t wait to “come back home again.”

Alumni Spotlight

Alecia “Lady Ice” Brown, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, ’15

Alecia “Lady Ice” Brown is a Jamaican raised artist from Worcester, MA who began her dance journey at age 12. She became one of the first members of In Da Zone under the instruction of Shauree Allotey. Her style merges Dancehall and Hip Hop, and she gained her knowledge by experiencing the main source; the streets. Ice’s expertise is not limited to choreography, performance, battle, freestyle, crew, and video. She has been dancing and teaching professionally for over 13 years and continues to share her knowledge on street culture by encouraging authenticity. Her mission is to enlighten the next generation to create the future they envision.

When asked how COF Dance impacted her career she said: “COF [Dance] jumpstarted my dance career in Boston. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I had not signed up. As a new student at Mass Art, I was looking for an outlet for dance and came across a COF Hip Hop class. From there, I began my exploration of the Boston dance community and have been involved ever since. After COF, I danced for Northeastern and eventually found myself on crews and entering the underground battle scene. To come back as an alumna and share my experience is full circle.”
