The month of March commemorates the role, accomplishments, and contributions women and female-identifying individuals have made in both America and beyond!
First recognized in 1987, the mass acknowledgment and commercialization of Women’s History Month has been in recent years. Using an intersectional lens, March represents the struggles and successes women of several identities have faced.
The National Women’s History Alliance creates a theme to empower female-identifying individuals each March. This year’s spotlight is on “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion,” in which programming will feature diverse women leaders. Past themes include “Women Who Tell Our Stories” and “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope”
In Boston, Women’s History Month is commemorated by state-sanctioned and local events. There will be galleries, exhibits, and special programming around the city. The Museum of Science and certain branches of the Boston Public Library have already announced programming. MeetBoston has also compiled a list of Women’s Themed events and celebrations, check out their list here.
