Information for Faculty & Academic Advisors
Faculty and Academic Advisors play an integral role in the Cross Registration process for students. The information in this section will assist you as you work with students to navigate the process. Your support will enable students to take advantage of one of the academic jewels that the Colleges of the Fenway offers.
What Type of Approval Is Needed
All students need to follow the current cross-registration process, which can be found here. Students registering into courses without pre-requisites or other requirements can register automatically through the online system. Their registration will be sent to the home institution for final back-end processing to complete. Registrations that require a pre-requisite transcript be reviewed are sent to the host institution’s registrars office for review and approval. The home institution registrar will review the request and forward to the host institution for final course approval. Students who cross-register the spring of their senior year should inform their course instructor of their final grade deadlines at the beginning of the semester.
How-To Cross-Register
Cross-registration process information is available by clicking here.
- Advisor and student discuss cross-registration plans, especially if courses are required to complete degree requirements. A searchable database of all courses open for cross registration can be found in the searchable Course Directory.
- Students are responsible for ensuring that they meet all pre-requisite requirements.
- Student completes the cross-registration process via the online portal; adding the course to their cart, signing off on the consent form, filling in their enrollment information and uploading any necessary pre-req paperwork.
- During the designated cross-registration period, the student completes the online application form, which is then submitted to their home Registrar for approval.
- On the back end, the home registrar will review the application and forward the request to the host institution, who will complete the course registration and notify the home institution that the student has been registered.
- Students who wish to drop a course during the open add/drop period may do some through the online portal. Students who wish to drop a course after add/drop has ended must contact the host institution. Drop/add and course withdrawals are subject to deadlines at the host institution.
Who Can Cross-Register
Any full-time undergraduate student at any of the five colleges can register for up to two courses per semester at other institutions. First-year first-semester students must wait until their second semester to cross-register for a course.
Any exceptions to the two course maximum policy must go through the Registrar at the home institution.
